- Jiufen Old Street
If you’re going to Taipei, one of the places that you cannot miss out on is Jiufen Old Street. This is a place that millions of people visit every year. This is because Jiufen Old Street has been considered a historical landmark since it has been around since the Qing Dynasty.
The Chinese word Jiufen translates to ‘nine portions’. This is because it started as a small village with nine families. So, when these families needed food, they would ask for nine portions. Located on the side of a tall mountain, you will experience chilly weather and gorgeous sites when you visit this location.
Steep stairs, hanging lanterns and small alleyways are part of the charm so you will have an amazing time exploring the markets! Some of the things that people like to do when they visit Jiufen Old Street is to eat local food.
There are also restaurants and simple carts that sell authentic Taiwanese food. Other than these attractions, you can also visit theatres, go shopping, see some temples, and many more.
- Go to Teapot Mountain
If you’re the kind of person who enjoys hiking or rock climbing, then come and visit Teapot Mountain in Taiwan!
One of the reasons why it was given the name ‘Teapot Mountain’ is because people say the shape of the peak resembles a teapot. Plus, the locals love to drink delicious tea in the country.
It is also found very close to Jiufen Old Street, so you can access both locations easily. There are other new things you can experience while climbing teapot mountain.
You can enjoy breathtaking views and exciting hiking trails when you visit this location. Come across stone bridges and beautiful flowering plants as you walk across the path to the top of the mountain.
Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned climber, there are trails and challenges fit for both. You can visit an eco-park and get a chance to see some hidden caves. If you’re determined to reach the top, you’ll have to climb some ropes and trek some tricky paths, but the view at the top will be worth it.
- Visit Bitou Cape
If some people feel a connection to hiking and visiting the mountains, others find comfort in visiting the sea. The reason why it can get extremely cold in Jiufen is that it is located high up in the mountains and is located beside the ocean as well.
To get to this location, you have to walk through the bridges and pathways of the mountains first. Get your walking shoes ready, cause there’s a long way to go and there’s no way for a car to get there.
However, when you reach the top of the mountain, you will come across a large viewing deck that will show you the beauty of the coastline.
Aside from enjoying the gorgeous scenery, you can even enjoy delicious food when you get there! Since Jiufen is also known for its seafood, you can enjoy freshly-caught fish, squid, and shellfish when you’ve completed your hiking trip. Talk about ending the day on a great note!
- Visit the Golden Waterfall
Waterfalls are usually majestic in themselves since they are several feet tall and feature beautiful sights as well. However, did you know that you can visit a waterfall that changes colours?
The reason why it was given this name is that the side of the waterfall has rocks that are made with amber and other mineral deposits. When the water falls from the river, it will turn from blue to orange. Then, the river water will mix with the ocean as it moves down the stream.
The Golden Waterfall in Jiufen isn’t exactly made with solid gold, but it’s different from any other waterfall you’ve seen. Some people say that if you visit the Golden Waterfall, you need to make a wish and there is a chance that it will be granted.
- Enjoy tea in Artist Teahouse
If you are the kind of person who enjoys a cup of tea, then there’s no better place to enjoy it than in Taiwan. You can take it a step further and go to the Artist Teahouse located in Jiufen.

Another bonus is that the location is simply gorgeous. The brick walls along with the balconies and greenery make for great photo opportunities! Learn all about the history of tea in Taiwan and see the old materials used to make it in Artist Teahouse.
- Taipei Palace and Museum
If you want to see some of the wonders of Taipei, you can come over to the palace and museum. This palace has been around since 1925 in Peking and 1965 in Taipei.
The first thing you will notice is that the palaces are huge. There are three of them surrounding each other, and some of them offer different experiences. One of them is a museum, another is a temple, and the other is a hotel built with restaurants.
Aside from the sheer magnificence of the palace in itself, you can also enjoy the vast collection of priceless materials and artefacts that are hundreds of years old. These are all original and are heavily guarded by security 24/7.
It is one of the largest structures in the capital, and you can’t miss it especially when passing by nearby roads. If you are looking for a taste of Chinese and Taiwanese culture and history at its finest, then come on over and pay a visit!
